The Red Savina pepper is a cultivar of the habanero chili, which has been selectively bred to produce hotter, heavier, and larger fruit. Frank Garcia of GNS Spices, in Walnut, California, is credited with being the developer of the Red Savina habanero. The Red Savina chili held the Guinness World Record as the hottest chili in the world from 1994 - 2006. It was displaced by the Bhut Jolokia pepper.
The chile "heat" of the Red Savina Pepper typically ranges from 350,000 to 577,000 on the Scoville scale.
